My kids have come pretty close to mastering the alphabet so I decided to start teaching them word families. They were having trouble with grasping the concept of rhyming word so I thought that using word families would also help them grasp this concepts. It has really worked. I know that we would be starting our Dr. Seuss unit soon so of course I went with the word family "at".
I had bought an awesome word family cricut cartridge a couple of weeks ago and was dying to give it a try.
I had only spent 13 bucks on the cartridge so that made it even more awesome.
Here is what I made for the "at"word family
I went over this family almost ever day and then left it on the board. We have been working on this word family for about 3 weeks. and Guess what My kids can read these words!!!! We did a work Dr. Seuss worksheet with this word family and they were able to read the words: cat, sat, hat, bat, and mat with only a little help. on top of that they are understanding rhyming words. I read Hop on Pop Friday and every page those kids were shouting out "that rhymes".
I am so proud of my kiddos!!!!!!

Things kids say the darnest things part 1
Sometimes the things that comes out of these students mouths crack us up. I keep meaning to write them down because they are worth saving.
*Going over the kid's last names and my assistant asked one of them what my name was. His reply "Ms. Lexie Awesome"
* They call my assistant the snack and mop teacher because she is the one that puts snack out and mop.
* My assistant and I were talking and she said "I'm worth 20 bucks and hours."
our student's response (even though she wasn't in the conversation) "Tell it too the judge"
I was on the floor laughing.
I love these kids.
